First Duty
Wednesday, November 29, 2006
♥ 8:06 PM

I had my first duty on the 28th November 2006. The day was quite slack actually as there was enough manpower, so all I had in the morning was fatigue work aka sai kang which is sweeping the road of the leaves and some unknown fruit with the medic and store man. After the fatigue work ended at 0900, I went to sweep my bunk too and also change the bed sheets as I would be sleeping on the bed that night and well my bed has been used by some drivers before and I do not really like sharing such facilities. At 1730, I went along with 3 other RPs to lower the flag and then proceed to the cookhouse for dinner. On the way there, Qhairil remembered that he had to collect food for Budiman and Syahid and turned back to get the meal boxes. After I finished my dinner, the driver was activated to drive Qhairil to the cookhouse and thereafter to the lighthouse mess to deliver the food. On that night, there was a fireworks trial going on at the mess and many officers attended the event along with their wives. I started my duty at 6 and it lasted till 11 and after which Qhairil took over. I had another duty from 0100 to 0400 and then I was done. Basically the duty is a very relaxed one. We are only required to sit at the main gate and open the gates for anyone entering or leaving the camp. So at very late hours, all I did was sit there staring into space and did some occasional reading. The light there is quite bad for reading and it makes me feel sleepy. Sentry duty there is super slack too with the sentry sitting down (illegal of course) and playing PSP. Think I shall bring my PSP along the next time. But the problem is condensation. All the stuff left on the table will be wet after some time and it is really wet. Luckily I wrapped my book and put it in a Ziploc bag or it would be drenched after one night. After my duty ends at 0400, I rested till 0730 and book out for my physiotherapy at NUH. I had only rested for about like 3 hours as between 5 plus to 0730, I had diarrhea and could not rest. After my physiotherapy, I went home to bathe and grab the laptop before heading to Bishan McDonalds to meet Mark for the Christmas Concert. Sam See could not make it as she was sick due to some virus which makes her puke. Get well soon Sam. The rough idea of the skit is out and the band members have been selected more or less. Now what is left is for practices and weaving the whole program together. After the meeting, I went home for my much needed rest.

Finally after some discussion at Bishan Mac, Jacob, Terrence, Char, Angeline and I have a theme for the concert. It is about blogging. Well since we are using teenage problems as a platform to bring to our friends the true meaning and message of Christmas, we might as well select a suitable theme which is well very much teen related. Nowadays many teenagers blog instead of writing a diary and many of such Blogs are actually a place for them to document their life as well as voice out any problems that they may faced. That's enough for now and I shall not reveal too much. Lolz. The planning is really a challenging task, it's the first task that I have since I joined this church and it really has many problems. For example, half of the people in the team are in NS and the other half is as inexperienced as me. Another thing is the lack of time that we have. I mean since the idea is only out now, we have many things to settle such as band rehearsal and publicity and stuff like that and I am really rushing a schedule. But as it is, I will give my best and with God's help and blessing, nothing is impossible.

Jeremiah

♥ 8:13 PM

Well on Sunday, we went down to Jacob’s house to watch the movie Jeremiah and to look at his son Joseph. Well it was really a lot of people there watching the movie and we had lunch at his house too. The movie is about the life of the prophet Jeremiah and the struggles he faced and the way that God uses him to warn Israel about the evil that they were doing and also to give them the consequences should they still fail to obey God. Well it’s a sad show really where we see the suffering Jeremiah went through when he delivered God’s word to the people and they do not believe him and some even beat him up. So it ended with the invasion of Israel by the Babylonian empire. This sets me to think whether how open are we to advice by others even if its something that we do not wish to hear, or we rather listen to what we want to hear. Well for me, I really do not know. After the movie, Danny, Justin and I finally get something planned for the concert on Christmas. Well I think its quite a cool event and its now awaiting for the green light. Shall not reveal too much here or it will spoil the fun.

Well thank God its Friday, I am about to die from the boring work that I do everyday as a RP. Actually being an RP is not that bad except for the fact that it is super boring. But on the job, I actually get to learn a lot like dealing with people who just refuses to change pass and make a thousand comments before they change for a pass. They do not seem to realize that they are entering a military camp which is a restricted and protected area and not their grandfather’s house. Oh ya, I nearly got charged for a taxi that nearly wanted to go into camp. Heard the last time it happens, the guy on duty went to DB. For me going to DB would be the end of my life because I would not be able to enter any university in Singapore. So if any Taxi is going rush in, I am surely going to shoot it. Since I cannot afford to go overseas, I can only study in Singapore so if anyone is going to end my life this way. You are going to get a few shots from me, the one who miss the marksman badge by one single shot. Hahahaha. Just kidding actually. There is another group of people who usually do not like to change pass too, they are the senior officers, so in this case, we have to be firm yet polite to get our job done. A lot to learn actually, you have to be confident or they will usually just ignore you or try to scare you. You know what I mean. Today we had a visitor from sembawang country club and the reason that I remember this is well first of all it’s a pretty lady and secondly, on the way home, I saw her again at khatib MRT station. Hahahaha, what a coincidence. Well I know her name and am tempted to go say Hi actually, but in the end did not. Well think she would feel super weird if I were to do that. Lolz. Came back at around 1900. went for a run and now typing my blog. Feeling very tired and just feel like stonning.

Dinner with El, SH and Jay
Saturday, November 11, 2006
♥ 12:52 AM

Had dinner with Jay, Shi Hui and Eleanor today at Scott’s basement Crystal Jade La Mian and Siao Long Pao. From camp, I took 103 to serangoon and after which took a train to orchard mrt. At there, I exit the underpass to Tangs and wait for Jay to arrive via 190. Its my first time at Crystal Jade and I had the beef La Mian which was great and worth the money. Should try it if you have the chance. At dinner, we updated each other and plan the upcoming BBQ for the class. But somehow we did not manage to discuss much and just ended up with updates. After dinner, we went walking around and later went to have ice cream. We had a giant earthquake. During the dessert, we finally got some things of the BBQ settled and I think its gonna be ok just that people will have to make the effort to turn up for it.

Time flies

Times flies and its been a week since I am posted to Seletar CCO as a RP trainee. Well the place is ok, as it is near my house and the people there are generally nice and friendly and hard workers except for one who I dun really like. The job is simple but boring as it only involves either changing of passes for visitors or standing at the main gate to check for passes. Although its boring but in fact our job is very important as we are the first line of defense against any form of intrusion. On the job, we also get to know many regular contractors and well they are kind to let us take a ride if we went to go to the bus stop outside or even for trips to the cookhouse. Right now, we are really shorthanded and thus we have to work a long hours and have little rest. Well hope that after the next course, more RPs will be sent here. Anyway theres this particular guy who is really getting on my nerves, he is playful and even jokes during work and is always late for taking over of duties. But well too bad, theres always such people around and I just have to put up with it.

Something happen on Tuesday which really tested my patience. When I wanted to get out to sign some papers on Tuesday night, I realized that I lost my keys and could not find them anywhere. So I just used my sis's key and decided to find them later. But when I came home, I searched everywhere and could not find it. Then I started to get real worried and nervous as I could have left it on the door and it could have got stolen by some people and they could come into the house. So I searched and researched and when I still could not find, I got very angry and started shouting and swearing too. I really don't know what got over me and I could not control myself. In the end, I found the key in my sis's bag. After that I realized what I have done and really regret it. I thought I could keep my cool but when troubles come, I realized that it is really hard.

Woke up with aches all over my body today. Must be due to the run last night and since I have not been exercising since my accident which is on july, my body is not used to too much physical exertion. Gonna start training my body and ready myself for IPPT should my status ends on 15th feb. Last night’s run was great, the weather was cooling and its been a long time since I last sweat it out and it certainly feels good. After running about 5km, I did some crunches, some arm exercises recommended by my therapist, I went home. Did nothing much today except went to get some stuff to refill the cupboard and getting some food for Camille and myself since there was nothing to eat for lunch today. For the whole day, I just slack around and did a variety of stuff.

Night jog

♥ 10:02 PM

Went for physio at 1400 today and I am transferred to sports side to do more active strengthening since my muscles have sort of stabalise. This is good news which means that I am on the road to recovery. Day was as usual, but I did main gate from 0730 all the way to 1200 taking the occasional toilet break. Went for a jog just now at 1930, ran for about 5km and then proceed to do some crunches and assisted push ups. I have not been exercising since my injury and it certainly feels good to sweat it out. As a RP, I have literally no chance of PT during my job but it’s good that I have a garang PC. Yesterday he went for a run with some of the RP. Think RP should also have PT as we need to be fit to carry out our duties too. Think I shall introduce some scout PT to them. Lolz.

First day at seletar camp
Wednesday, November 01, 2006
♥ 8:45 PM

Its my first day at Seletar Camp as a RP trainee. I arrived there at about 0730 after getting a cab from 42. I was first told to exchange my 11B for a camp pass and thereafter I proceed to the RP bunk where I put my stuff in my room and wait for a guy there to bring me to see the RSM. RSM was busy scolding the duty RP for not raising the flag and other stuff. I met the security officer first and he seems like a nice guy. He interviewed me and asked me many questions. From him I found out that my RP course is on the 18th dec to 19th dec. Seriously I had a cultural shock at seletar camp. When I was in Armour formation, there were no malays and now I am the only Chinese and other for one Indian and one Japanese, there rest were malays. Anyway, most of them are very nice and friendly except for one which I dun really like. Basically, RP is classified as security platoon and we have a PC which is the SO, a staff which is a provost and RSM. There are 3 jobs mainly, sentry, main gate and pass office. Other that these 3 main jobs, RP have to raise and lower flags as well as do sai kang allocated by the RSM. Its only my first day, but I have tried my hand at all 3 jobs. The things we do are boring but time pass very fast when its your shift, so its not that bad after all. The good thing about here is that the RP stay out and we are only required to stay if we are duty RP on that day. So at any day, 2 RP have to stay while the rest book out. Booked out at 1812 today and have to be there tomorrow by 0730.
