Psalm 101

Of David. A psalm.

1 I will sing of your love and justice;
to you, O LORD, I will sing praise.

2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will walk in my house
with blameless heart.

3 I will set before my eyes
no vile thing.
The deeds of faithless men I hate;
they will not cling to me.

4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with evil.

5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret,
him will I put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
him will I not endure.

6 My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
he whose walk is blameless
will minister to me.

7 No one who practices deceit
will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
will stand in my presence.

8 Every morning I will put to silence
all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
from the city of the LORD.

I was reading this in the daily bread entry on June 27 and think it’s a great psalm to share. Well this Psalm talks about integrity and like David, our integrity should begin in the privacy of our own house and extend to our choice of friends and colleagues. As followers of Christ and one whom has a renewed life, we should always walk in integrity and maintain a clear conscience. Do not be like others whom people label as hypocrites one who goes to church every Sunday and claim to be a Christian but in our daily life we are no different from the rest, continuing to sin and back stabbing others. For me I pray to God everyday that my life would be blameless and that I would always walk in integrity and the way which is pleasing to God. May god bless me and the rest of my friends as we continue our walk with our GOD. Amen

There is no better test of a man’s integrity than his behavior when he is wrong.

The retreat planning committee met again on sunday after a long break and well finally we managed to cover some ground in our planning and decide on a timeline. So far we have a theme now, a timeline of what to do and some objectives. On top of that, to boost our planning brains, we have invited 2 sisters to join us. Ok shall not reveal too much here. It will be secret and confidential till its ready to be released.

Finally the war at my workplace is over and after the extras and unhappiness, I think its time to move on and not have any ill feelings towards each other. As a 2Ic now and future ic, i will do my best to make sure all of us work together in peace and try to keep any arguments small and not have any more fights.

July is coming and my FTT is coming on the 12th and its time to start my driving lessons and hopefully i can pass all my test on first attempt.

In the end we did not wear No.3 for our NDP duties today since the E mart did not have any stock of No.3. Had NDP the whole day today and only came back at 10pm. Our job is basically access control of the control room where it’s the central nerve network of the entire program and to prevent any sabotage to the entire program, only authorized personnel is allowed into the room. All went quite well except for some people who did not have the required clearance and when we stop them there was a little unhappiness but soon things were sorted out and well we were praised for doing a good job and well that really made our day. On top of that I get to view almost the whole NDP performance too.

Oh man our E mart is really CMI. I was hoping to be able to get my No.3 today and get the rank sewed and then we can get everything ready but too bad this E mart don't have any stock for No.3 and need to see what to do tomorrow when I meet with Master. One option is to get time off to get the uniform from Nee Soon or Khatib camp. Well see how tomorrow.

Today was a really bad day and since the start of it, I had a real bad feeling about it. First, people did not report on time and some were even sleeping till late and detail was not out. But soon everything was sorted out and the day went about as usual. D finally got extra and the ever careful and shrew guy was actually done it by a newbie H. Apparently they had an agreement to swop duties with each other and D went on long leave. While D was on leave, our superior asked H if D has swop duties with him and H said that D did not confirm with him and even added that he did not like this changing of duties thing. From my experience of swopping with D, I personally think that he would not do such a thing so in my opinion and purely from mine alone this is a case of sabotaging and it is disgusting to play on such a thing where it stems from trust among colleagues. Although I dun really adore D, but i do not hate him that much either and well I am not commenting anything in front of them and will just watch my back against H and as long as thing does not get out of hand I will sit on the fence and observe. So from today, its a war between D and H to try to do each other in.

For this sat and next, Budiman and I have to be at Marina for NDP duties and we have to get No. 3 its a bit rush but I still managed to get it done. All thanks to Aunty Nancy. Hmm wonder how i will look in No. 3

But in the end the kind guy at the door let us in and well we certainly had a great time with the free drinks and food and well overall it was an awesome party and i stayed till 1 plus then i went home.

Mid Year Retreat
Tuesday, June 12, 2007
♥ 10:57 PM

Just got back from our SF mid year retreat and well it was worth my time and one day off to go for it full time and by God’s grace everything turn out well. It was more of a evaluative retreat where we just gather together and have some time off our usual schedule and just spend some quiet time together as a SF to think through the events for the past 6 months and also to reflect on what we have learn and whether have we really understand what we learn or are we just letting the messages get by us without truly getting the meaning of it. The other theme for this retreat is evangelism where we have a session on Friday about how to share the gospel and also to prepare us for the main event on Sunday which is the evangelistic BBQ where our friends are invited and we will try to share the gospel with them.

I went to the retreat on Friday night at around 8 I think and joined in a bit of the E action which is a workshop about sharing the gospel. From this session I think the thing that I have learned is sharing the gospel by taking about problems commonly faced by teens. The five points here are mainly Identify, where we discuss issues which our friends are concerned about and relevant to their lives. Next is Including our experience where GOD is relevant in the issues faces by our friends. Third point is Illustrating one of the gospel points to our friends which are the most closely linked to the issues faced by them. Next we get our friends to Inquire about anything that they do not understand and also listen to their opinion. Lastly leave a lasting Impression by bringing up gospel related matters in subsequent conversations. Well this is something that I have never tried before and I guess it is better than going straight to the gospel when sharing with our friends. At least it gives us a chance for us to talk to them first and slowly build up to the sharing of the gospel.

After the E action, we had evaluation together as a retreat group where we set out our goals and objectives for this retreat. For me the purpose of going to the retreat is to take some time off work and to really concentrate on building my relationship with God and to learn more from him during this time. At the same time, retreat is also the time to make more friends and know more people in the SF and also forge closer bonds with existing friends. After this evaluation, I went for I/Cs meeting with the comm members and then went to rest.

In the morning, we started off with a walk around the chalet near the sea where we stop at a place and read God’s word out loud about his creations and everything wonderful that he has created. It was truly a great way to start the day knowing that all the wonderful around us that was all of God’s creation. After the morning action, we went back for breakfast and later had our E shining family session.

E-Shining family is basically a time for us to do some personal evaluation after the creation of the family group concept and how we have each served in the family group. For me personally I have not served much in the family group yet but I brought out some evaluation that I had while organizing the Christmas Blog event. I guess I am the kind of person which is task orientated but may tend to neglect the feelings of others. I like to have control over stuff and make sure that I am aware of everything that happens. The difficulty I can foresee would be for me to serve under others. I am only willing to work under people I think are capable and worth his salt or I would seek to challenge the person in charge. I feel that this needs to be changed and we need to learn to work with others. I hope to have another major project after Christmas Blog and I got it now and it’s the year end retreat and I pray that with God’s help that this could be a chance for me to serve my family group and also the other Sfers by helping them organize a retreat to remember. After the session, we have family QT and family time for us to spend time together as a family and to have any discussions that we need. After lunch, our family went to changi village to have desert and at there we had a great time together chatting and also planning a family lunch next Sunday. After our desert, we went back to the chalet for QT with Justin and his sisters joining us.

After QT was Ooi – Lim – Pig where we played games within out retreat groups and well it was great fun and the worst part was the gymnastic station where we had to dance and we got the award for the most clever use of props for Keith and I throwing the hula hoop to each other. Lolz. And by popular demand, I performed by very special hula hoop performance for my fans who were all cheering me on. It was a good laugh for everyone.

After dinner was worship lead by me where we sang songs to praise and worship the lord and I shared about how we should not worry about things and that we should always trust the lord and pray about problems that we might have and God will provide a way out for us.

After worship, was E – Know Your Influence by Albert and it is a time for us to evaluate our own influence and one of which is the word and for the SSFers, we are given time to break up into our retreat groups and think through about what we have learn about the book of Mark during the past 6 months and do a skit to show the learning point that we have. For our group, we quote from Mark 11 where Jesus chases the people from the temple who are there trading and not worshiping the Lord. The learning point that our group tried to portray was that when we go to church every Sunday we have to go there with a heart that is to worship the Lord and not treat it as a chore and a ritual that our physical bodies may be there but not our heart.

Next morning, Jo, Terrence, Siew Hua, Xin Ying and I prepared breakfast for the rest. For my part, I help to cut the luncheon meat and also to fry a batch of scrambled eggs. It was a good breakfast and everyone I guess enjoyed it. We had TAG time after morning worship, followed by a prayer for the friends and the BBQ event. After which we started the briefing and preparation for the BBQ. Some of us practiced sharing the gospel to each other while others prayed for the friends.

When it was nearing the time for the BBQ to start, dark clouds started to form and Des suggested that we start praying for the weather and our friends and some of us went to the dorm and started praying. The BBQ was great with lots of food to eat and many friends came and we certainly had fun interacting with them. For me, I had the chance to have a chat with Edmund which is Des’s friend who came earlier that his group of friends. After chatting with him, I realized that he is very knowledgeable and that he is a Christian because of knowledge. So I see that he is lacking in the faith part and started sharing with him about how I came to know Christ and how I put my faith and trust in God and that our relationship with God should be based on faith alone and other stuff like history and work knowledge only strengthens this relationship. I guess it was a great time talking to him for he has indicated that he wish to accept Christ into his life (I guess this time for the right reason) and that he is also interested in coming for the I concert. This is indeed a good experience for me and its also my first to share the gospel to someone and by God’s grace I find it relatively smooth as I could quickly build rapport with him and I really thank God for his help and hopefully Edmund could place his faith in Christ and have a great relationship with him.

After the BBQ, I had a chat with Sam, Sam See, Jon and we had a look at some photos when they were young and well we certainly had a good laugh seeing how each has grown up and matured and well Sam K looked quite fat and his center parting hair style is funny and Danny looked very uncle. Haha.

The next morning, after breakfast, we had evaluation where we evaluated about what we have learned from the past 6 months of message and it was shocking to find out that many of us had not really learned anything or understand the messages. The thing is most of us did not bother to find out more or to asked around to make sure that we understand the messages taught to us. I guess this really wake me up to the fact that I have been going through messages without really understanding and this would lead to the danger of wrong application of lessons learned if we managed to learn any at all. Thus a learning point would be to really study the word after the messages and seek to understand the lessons. We had a sharing of the BBQ session and I shared with the rest about how I shared to the rest. From others sharing the problems we complied is that sometimes we may have left out the friends in our conversation and we need to be sensitive to them. The majority of the problems faced were that our friends tend to stay together as a group which makes it hard for us to talk to them and share. There were also friends who were interested in the gospel but find scientific theories like evolution more appealing. But overall our friends find us very friendly and nice to be with and they are interested to come for the I concert.

Overall this retreat has been timely for me to really take time off work and really stop and evaluate about myself, the past 6 months and about what have I really learned. It is also the first time I get to be a group I/c where I have to lead my group for discussions and also show an example by sharing first. After all the evaluation, I think I really need to starting taking notes for my messages and learn the messages well It was also a great experience for me to share the gospel with someone where previously I have my reservations and I guess a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step and this is my first step for greater things to come and finally this retreat also helps me plan for the year end one and we have to decide if we want to complement it or have a completely new idea and I guess it remains to be discuss and plan and may God bless us for the planning of the year end retreat.

Went to Nee Soon Dental center to have my teeth checked as I was feeling pain when I drink cold stuff and well it seems that my filling is fine and the roots are fine too and the Dental Officer say that it might be the wisdom tooth which is growing and pushing towards the back teeth. So I need to have surgery to get the tooth out and well it comes with a 5 to 7 days MC according to the DO.

On Friday, Shah was out from DB after 10 days there. Well luckily for him, for the first 7 days he had SFI food instead of food cooked by the brothers there as there were some renovations on going. Other then lousy food, everything one does in there needs permission. Things like bathing, brushing teeth and crossing yellow lines had to be approved. Since he is certified fit, he is also required to do this thing called the sandbag regime where one had to carry a 40kg sandbag and march 20 times around a parade square. Well hopefully he learns something useful in there and improves his discipline and attitude and not get into any trouble again. After work on Friday, we went to arab street to have dinner and chill out with each other. Its my first time there and once again I was brought to another part of Singapore which I have never been before. After dinner, the guys went for shisha while I headed home.

On Saturday I went to watch Pirates with Shu Wen at Yishun GV. Well it was a good show with cool fighting scenes and the story is quite good but the last part is a little sad where the guy can only see his lover once every 10 years. But it is only when we could not have it all the time that we learn to appreciate things and hold them dear to us. After the movie, we went orchard to shop around and I bought 2 books from borders. One is For One More Day and the other is freakonomics. I finished For one more day on Sunday during my duty and it is a great read and I recommend it to all as well as the first 2 books. We had dinner at this Italian restaurant which is at the basement of paragon and the food there was good man. I had this cheesy pasta with chicken and it was delicious. After dinner, we walked all the way to city hall, had some tea at coffee club and then go home.

Duty on Sunday and I chiong 12 hours straight, went for mobile then go SMC to sleep. During dinner, I ate cheese fries bought by Jeremy’s mum and I feel so fat. Lolz. Think I seriously need to run like 10 rounds and starve myself for this whole week.

Crap so many stuff to read and watch and do and so little time. Sometimes I think that staying out does not really gives one much time. Usually after running, it will be around 9 plus when I actually have time to read and I will most probably doze off and maybe at most I can sneak around an hour’s time to read. I am getting lazy and I am not like that when I am in Jc. Think army is making my brain slow down. Need to buck up and work hard.

List Of Things to Read

  1. Newsweek
  2. Forbes
  3. The Executive ( The new magazine which I sign up for)
  4. Freakonomics
  5. Sex and the supremacy of Christ
  6. Online Business Week

The pc show is disappointing man. Its basically the same as the IT show minus a few booths here and there. What you can find there is mainly laptops, lcd television, printers and speakers. There are a few small booths around too for the cheap bargains. Oh and I know where to work next time, I wanna work for this brand called le mon, wow of all the sales person, its all gals with only one guy. Can you believe it, that guy must be damm lucky. Lolz. After the pc show, eug, allen and I went down to the book fair to take a look. Hmm not much people there and most of the stuff there are quite kiddy and anyway I spent money there on subscription of a biz mag called The Executive. Well its sort of like a local forbes with many great articles on business and well its what i am really interested in and well its money worth spending. After that we went to have lunch or rather dinner and walk around a bit. At around 9pm, we left marina and went to amk to play pool. When we got there it was too full so some of them play billard. I had an embarrassing incident there. When i was walking to our table, the paper bag i was carrying ripped apart in front of a group of gals and they started laughing. Instead of helping me, the rest of the guys just kept laughing and ran away instead. How nice of them since it was all their drinks in there that made the bag tear apart. Nvm since its over. Lolz.
